Colorado Roofer Insurance

Roofing is the hardest trade to insure in Colorado and the busiest. Hail season fills your schedule and empties the standard insurance market. We place roofers through specialty markets that actually want the class, with the wording GCs and suppliers require.

Built For Roofers

Coverage that survives a roofing claim

Plenty of cheap policies will take a roofer's premium. Far fewer will pay a roofer's claim. The difference lives in the exclusions, and we read them so you do not find out at the worst time.

  • General liability without the trap exclusions: we flag open-flame and torch-down exclusions, height limitations, condo and townhome exclusions, and action-over exclusions before you bind.
  • Workers' comp built for surge staffing: hail season crews, 1099 questions, and sub-crew certificates handled correctly so the audit does not wreck your year.
  • Commercial auto and trailers: trucks, dump trailers, and equipment moving between sites every day.
  • Inland marine: ladders, compressors, and tools on the roof, in the truck, and in the yard.
  • Umbrella: commercial work and national GC contracts increasingly demand $2M to $5M total limits.

Colorado's roofing rules

Colorado's residential roofing law requires written contracts and prohibits roofers from paying or waiving homeowner deductibles. Operating clean is also an underwriting asset: documented practices help us place you better.

Subcontractor reality

If you run sub crews, your GL and comp pricing depends on certificate compliance. We help you build the file that keeps your audit honest and your premium where it was quoted.

New roofers welcome

First-year roofing operations are the classic hard-to-place risk. We have markets for new ventures and a path to better pricing as you build claims-free history.

Common Questions

Roofer insurance FAQs

Why was I declined or non-renewed by my carrier?

Roofing is a restricted class for most standard carriers, especially in hail states. Declinations often have nothing to do with your record. Specialty markets built for roofing are the right home, and pricing there is more stable than you might expect.

What does roofer GL typically cost in Colorado?

Pricing keys off payroll, revenue, residential versus commercial mix, and your sub usage. Rather than quote a misleading average, we will give you a real number from multiple markets, usually within a day or two of getting your details.

Can you handle my GC's insurance requirements?

Yes. Additional insured wording, primary and non-contributory language, waivers of subrogation, and per-project aggregates are everyday work for us. Send the contract's insurance section with your quote request.

Do you write roofers who also do gutters, siding, or solar?

Yes, but tell us everything you do. Undisclosed operations are the fastest way to a denied claim. We will rate the whole operation correctly up front.

What is the difference between being bonded and insured?

Insurance pays claims for damage and injuries; bonds guarantee specific obligations like permits or contract performance. Colorado municipalities often require license bonds, and GCs require insurance. Roofers usually need both, and we place both.

Do I need coverage for out-of-state storm work?

Yes, and before you chase the storm, not after. Multi-state operations need policies rated and filed for where crews actually work. Tell us your footprint and we will set the program up to travel.

How do per-project aggregate requirements work?

Larger GCs increasingly require your liability aggregate to apply per project rather than across your whole year. It is an endorsement, not a new policy, and we add it when your contracts demand it.

Is my equipment covered if my trailer is stolen from a job site?

Only with inland marine coverage scheduled to real values. Tool and trailer theft is rampant during hail season, and we set limits that reflect what a full re-kit actually costs.
