Colorado Painter Insurance

One drift of overspray across a parking lot can cost more than a year of premium. We insure Colorado painting contractors, interior and exterior, residential and commercial, with programs that take the trade's quiet exposures seriously.

Built For Painters

The painting contractor program

Painting looks low-hazard until you price the ladder claims and the overspray. The right program covers both without loading you for work you do not do.

  • General liability covering property damage in occupied spaces and overspray claims on vehicles, roofs, and neighboring property.
  • Workers' compensation with height exposure rated honestly: exterior ladder and lift work is where painter injuries live.
  • Commercial auto for vans and trucks carrying crews and material.
  • Inland marine for sprayers, lifts you own, and staging.
  • Umbrella when commercial contracts ask for more than $1M.

Interior vs exterior mix

Exterior work carries the height and overspray loadings. An accurate split between interior repaints and exterior projects is the cheapest rate relief available.

Lead-safe work

Pre-1978 housing brings EPA RRP lead rules. Certified firms are both compliant and more placeable. Tell us your certification status; it helps.

HOA and commercial repaints

Community repaint contracts come with certificate and additional insured requirements. We keep the paperwork moving so your crews keep moving.

Common Questions

Painter insurance FAQs

Is overspray actually covered?

Under most painter GL forms yes, as property damage, but some budget policies exclude or sublimit it. It is the first exclusion we check on any painting policy, because it is the trade's signature claim.

Do solo painters need workers' comp?

For yourself, often not legally, but many GCs and property managers require it before you are allowed on site. Minimum-premium policies exist for exactly that door-opener purpose.

Does my policy cover staining decks and fences too?

Usually, as part of painting operations, but exterior wood finishing should be declared. Undeclared operations are how clean claims turn into arguments.

Are lifts and scaffolds covered?

Owned equipment goes on inland marine; rented lifts need damage waivers or hired equipment coverage. Falls from height also drive comp rates, so documented safety practices pay twice.

Does my policy cover cabinet refinishing and spray booth work?

Shop-based spraying adds fire exposure that must be declared and rated. It is insurable, and undeclared booth work is the kind of surprise that wrecks claims.

Am I covered for color or finish disputes?

Workmanship disputes are contract issues, not insurance claims, until there is property damage. Clear written scopes and approved samples keep those arguments small and out of everyone's claims history.

Do property managers require special wording on certificates?

Commonly additional insured plus primary and non-contributory wording. We issue manager-compliant certificates same day, which keeps you on the approved vendor list.
